0212. in the midst of being busy with my life. regardless, it has been enjoyable.
yesterday, miss octopus and i did random things. i was pleased and genuinely surprised that she was spontaneous. i like that a lot. it opens new horizons for the both of us. im glad i still can learn new things about her 17.5 months into the relationship. we're growing stronger together.
today, two friends and i went places and shot random stuff with our cameras. again, a spontaneous and wonderful event. fruitful too. we went around shooting, chilled and drank tea. even though the weather was rather merciless, the company and activity was excellent.
so what's up tomorrow? it's monday. a work day in the office that can suck it and die and i wouldn't give a shit about, really.
15 more days to closure and it's toodles to y'all!
with that said, im off to bed.

1803. my weekend was well spent...
- shopping for steamboat ingredients with c
- tucking into the steamboat at c's with a group of people (who are really c's friends, who arent really my friends but are more than just acquaintances)
- losing money while gambling (as usual) with them
- smashing up charcoal chunks then setting up the fire for a poolside bbq
- eating at the poolside bbq to celebrate k's 26th with a surprise party (i didnt get to push him into the pool cos i was holding the cake)
- killing zombies after the bday bbq but getting repeatedly killed by them back during the finale until i gave up trying
- going over to sky's to bunk over for 2 days in a row
- helping hao fix k's network issue with his desktop (which he finally succeeded in doing so much to k's relief)
- taking a cool evening walk with k to a nearby petrol kiosk while talking about friendship and stuff
- arguing with my naggy mother about having friends over without first asking her (i really hate it that she treats me like im 12)
- and last but not least, having planned something to look forward to next weekend with c

0943. there are friends who will choose to talk to you about understanding and compassion so that you can learn from them.
and then there will be those who will choose to say nothing but demonstrate these virtues to you through their actions and behaviours.
im glad i made more friends in the latter type.

0310. i have gotten so engrossed in a little bowl of milk and plain kellogg's cornflakes lately that ive let one too many good things in life slip me by (one which to name is to eat honey stars instead of cornflakes but i think the latter still brings the best out of tasty and nutritious milk, vice versa) in order to savour that unforgetably titilating flavours of crispy corn and vile lactose entwined, or so to speak.
yay for cornflakes, for without which, humanity and his breakfast (plus an occasional supper) may have been shrouded in obscene junk food darkness.
a shoutout to great friends ken, sky, janice, hweeping and remy: major thankyous for the major surprise bday gift. it's a gorgeous action figure to have regardless of the fact that my family members go "what the heck is this thing?" after seeing it. hellboy rocks and so do my kakis! cheers!
ps: crap! xmas is just around the friggin' corner!! urghhhh... my ippt...
pps: i forgot to thank our dear LEZ too for the gift!

0136. to my brother from another mother, k:
i hope you fully understand now what i meant when i said i learnt the most out of THAT relationship i never had... i was not only taught what love really meant, but also the true meaning of friendship and "mutual fulfillment" as well.
in a way, i couldnt make a partner out of that person and i couldnt remain as friends too, even down at the simplest levels.
now that i've made the rain stop in my head, the rainbow finally appears. pop some rainbow into yours and begin see the light - we, as friends, have lost our places in her heart already.
or perhaps, it was as i quote you: "in different phases of our lives, we look for different things."
your brother from another mother,
h

0435. a thick metal chain, no matter what powerful material it is made from, is but as strong as its weakest link. a single snowball atop the alps can chain react into an avalanche. a single crack in a desert plateau can be split into two by constant sandstorms.
solve the small problems before the they become large enough to be of any problem at all. that way, you wont ever have to worry about large problems to begin with. you'll never know when a small problem can start to cause you consequences you'll never foresee.
just like in a relationship, a single argument or dispute over an issue that remains unresolved can revive and repeat itself over and over until it becomes mighty enough to wreck everything.
it's rather saddening to see two people who have spent a good 3 to 4 years of their lives as each other's better half become each other's thorn in the ass.

0124. a heavy musk of incense smog hung over the heartlands yesterday as the chinese common folk ignited tonnes of netherworld currency on the last day of the hungry ghost festival. personally, i dont wear a grudge towards this fervent act of pyromania, but dressing the entire residential area in an unbearable cloak of smoke and carpeting it with tattered little pieces of charred paper isnt very environmentally friendly. maybe they should look into banning such activities in a bid to save the earth.
go green, ya paper burners. burn your stuff online or something. hell yea, we should invent a site to allow people to burn incense on their very own browsers! why the heck not?

i'll sum the jap film fest screenings i attended in one word - artsy footsy. that's two words but you get my drift i suppose. this year's film was women centric; stuff about being a woman, the roles of a mother, the emotions of a woman etc.
the final film i caught was mourning forest by kawase naomi. it was a sellout screening, filling the 200 seater theatre to the brim. it talked about a wayward pair of lonely persons - a mother who had lost her son in a disaster and an elderly man who has lost his wife 33 years ago - and how the two journeyed into a vast forest, lost and clueless.
it was a powerful feature length film which contained numerous single shot scenes. the mis-en-scenes touched me the most because without cutting the shots, the emotions on the characters can truly drill into the viewer's mind. and without cutting, the effort of the director showed. it's extremely difficult to attempt a lengthy scene without a cut, much less actually shoot one with so much feelings involved.
i enjoyed myself a lot during that film. cant say the same for the rest where the topic spoke about motherhood (throw in a film where the director shot herself giving birth), but they were all worth the time and the cash.
if the japanese film fest comes again next year, count me in!

meeting a friend out of the blue just to smoke 2 cigarettes with him at a quiet playground made my day. im glad he is happier now. at least it puts me at ease knowing that he is not troubled anymore... for now.

1726. it's been a while. lately, the days were as draining as a count dracula would greedily syphon (i avoided the s*ck word for obvious reasons, mainly because some of my readers here tend to have their minds wandering on the wrong side of every fence) blood out from his victims' necks. i hardly even feel lethargic, it's purely sleepiness that's kicking me around like a soccer ball on an ice hockey pitch.
there was a rather major dispute between two good friends of mine over work. trust me, it's never nice to hear one brother unforgivingly blast another with an obscene number of expletives in one single conversational paragraph. a single phone called peppered with a tone filled with wrath and disappointment. i wish it wont happen again to anyone i know, especially not on myself because i know i, myself, am prone to such nonsense.
one thing ive learnt about growing up is that i alone am answerable for myself and the things i do. this is why there are laws, rules, regulations for the purpose of enforcement. the very fabric of human society lies in the fact that everyone must be reponsible for his deeds. if even that is violated, we would not have been able to call ourselves "civilised" anymore.
i dont know how deep a scar this little fiasco will lacerate between the two of them. i will not attempt to nurse wounds that do not fester upon me, neither will i try to stitch the tattered flesh on either parties up. the only part i'll play is that of a peaceful twin headed snake, for there is a lesson for both parties to absorb at the end of the day.
and so, morale of the story: nothing good comes out from mixing trust, unreliability and poor judgement together. i'll be forthright; pretending nothing ever happened wont make whatever that has happened go away.
next time, look and look hard before you leap. even if you're leaping for a friend.

0308. when life beckons for your continual perseverance to forge ahead, you have no time to stand around and wonder about trivial things and subtleties.
take the issue/object/subject at face value, spend the most minimal time required to reconsider if you still need/want it to your best benefits and advantages, if yes keep if no say bye bye and press on.
on way or another, ive learnt that life is a simple game of "aeroplane chess". you throw the dice, you move your pieces to home. no matter what number appears on the face of the 6 sided cube, you still move forward. once in a while you get good days and land on the matching colours, other days you're so busy that time passes by like you hurled a double 6.
yea, ive moved on so far ahead that i dont need to hold on to whatever that's left behind me, especially folks who do not seem to take equal interest in me or build a kind of bond so we can travel this journey together.
like my own little bandwagon, ive constantly left people and things behind and have taken up new passengers and belongings. it's been a fun ride, and you can trust me on that.
for those who are always traveling behind of me... i dont need you to catch up. just follow your own pace and enjoy what you deem fit as your company. i cant do anything to stop you, i dont want to do so either. so by all means, enjoy yourselves.
i'll see you all at the end of the line.

1659. i'll never find myself able to fit into a friendship or a circle that relates to each other like siblings in an actual family.
truth to be, to me siblings can never become real friends with each other. it's a totally different relationship altogether. comparing friendship with kinship is like comparing a green apple and a red apple; both are apples but they taste different from each other.
i find it amusing how some people can treat their friends like siblings. are there any hidden meaning or motives behind that? im sure it's definitely more than respect out of an order of age.
but i dont know. and frankly, i dont wish to find out either. different people treat friendship different. i'll just shut my trap and let them do whatever the hell they want, inclusive of leaving me out of their circles, thank you.

0215. sometimes i feel that i havent quite made any true friends out there yet.
most of the time, im just there as a mockery target or for comic relieve; all at my expense. and frankly, im sick and tired of it.
i feel like a clown, when the whole world points and laughs with him while he's on stage but he cries alone in his backstage room.
dont blame me for being harsh, but for the friends i can actually do without, i will only offer my unapologetic pretense from now on.

2150. the little that is said with my mouth can be felt rather easily through my skull or this tattered ribcage of mine. sometimes i feel terribly naked; not in the sense of physical clothing, but to the fact that i seem to wear my emotions on my sleeve.
which makes me wonder what makes a friend of mine so sensitive sometimes, and what makes him quite the opposite other times.
maybe we're both the same... certain things we just cant settle with at this level of tact we have.
or maybe not. ive asked myself before time and again if this relationship we have is what it seems like at all; looking at the things he'd said and done in the past, it seems to me that ive been played quite the fool by him. with a good bout of betrayal in the bag, i think it's already hit a good count.
frankly, once he moves out of our currently drawn circle, ive decided to free him, let him go and release all the past we've been through. forgive and forget.
like some people whose names i wont mention, i will let them walk away from my life. so much for a lasting lifelong friendships. im not naive, it doesnt exist between us.

0357. happy belated bday ray. it's been so many years since we'd last holed up in that little computer lab on the 4th floor of a certain secondary school classroom block. a freaking decade man. good times.
and here's to better times ahead for many more decades to come.
as we age, we gather aspirations to become and traverse towards our aims to achieve. everyone's goals differ, but one thing remains true:
friendship/brotherhood is indeed priceless.
(no matter how bisexual they can get but that's another story for another time...)

0940. it ached my heart and made me cringe when i first found out that a person whom i could truly consider as a fren has to undergo an untold sort of surgery.
and to make the matter more saddening to digest, she has to go under the knife overseas. hence the financial burdens that blows her cover too.
although the person involved never did reveal in what way she was ill, i thought it was incredibly horrible to hear that another person im close to needs major surgery since my beloved mother.
1 year... does she have the luxury of time? we can only hope.
im no hero. i can only do so much to save the deserving people whom i love.
im no hermit. it pains me when i know that they are, ever so slightly, slipping away from me.
and im no beefcake. i wont hold these tears back when the floodgates are pried open.
but it's rather amusing how friendships with different individuals defined themselves this clearly to me straight smack in my face like wham bam thank you ma'am.
