0204. watch out serangoon! boon lay is turning into the 2nd little india. outside on the grass fields of the most western train station, a throng of foreign workers are strewn all over; especially so with bangladeshi or indian ethnicities. they sit around for hours on the bare greens during weekends, chatting over beer and peanuts like having their own community picnic.

and it was not until recently that the park just opposite boon lay station opened. it's fully functional with jogging tracks, benches, lamps, trees and even a clock tower. needless to say, where do the rest of the foreign workers chill out if the grass patches at their usual mass gathering spot run out?

no prizes for guessing why i will refer to the newly completed park as bangla garden from now. it's really ironic if you realise chinese garden is only 2 mrt stops away.

well, at least they dont litter their finished beer cans and cracked peanut shells where they slack. in someways, although they appear gay, pungent and detestable most of the time, they can be considered to be more cultured and polite than the everyday natives can ever be.

for all our prejudices against the very folks who built our homes – shame on us.
