0233. here are a couple of reasons why i think singaporeans need to be taught manners.

1) youngsters at the movies these days... which of their teachers or parents told them it was perfectly fine to comment out loud at the scenes in the film and that their friends could laugh along at the tasteless and low class jokes they make?

"wah so white!" and "oh my god, am i dreaming? im seeing stars" arent exactly the kind of dialogue i call witty at all, which im not sure what the commentator's equally stupid friends are amused at. especially not during the opening scenes of a movie like the day the earth stood still when keanu reeves is already trying his DARNEST to act.

2) our population is definitely aging, judging by the sheer number of elderly folk standing around on the mrt train. there was a recent report that even old people didnt give another old person face; an aged man would rather place his shopping bags on the seat than to let another elderly lady have it. he even threw a tantrum when he was obviously in the wrong.

respect needs to be earned. until then, THE MORNING MRT SEAT REMAINS MINE until tanjong pagar (unless you're talking about a visibly pregnant lady or some unfortunate parent with multiple kids hanging around him/her like clingy monkeys on a coconut tree).

3) i agree that holding the door is a gentleman's job, but holding the lift by pressing the little button depicting the "< >" (open) symbol isnt that much of a genius' job, male or otherwise. i just dont understand why people who love to stand in the lift next to the buttons more than often fail to apply enough pressure on that little button to prevent the door from attempting to make human juice out of the other innocent passengers.

it got me pissed when this young lady just stood there like a vase (she even fucking combed her hair using the reflective walls inside the lift as her personal mirror while the incident went about) and failed to hold the lift door open for the rest of the passengers. the door kept closing in on the others, but luckily no one got "squashed" because most of the victims were rather flightly on their feet. these scenarios are just accidents waiting to happen...

k. nuff for one night. everyday, i become more and more ashamed (that i am a citizen of my country) and cynical (of the goodness of mankind in general). oh well.
