0934. corrine may's voice totally bowled me over when a friend and i caught the sneak peek to a little known local production called the leap years. she sang for most of the songs used in the film about a couple who struck a promise to meet every feb 29.
the female lead, wong li-lin, was brilliant. i even liked 715's performance this time round (compared to his mute role in 881) and his broken english in his dialogue only made him seem "more human". and yea, cantonese was used rather than the usual hokkien dialect.
the film had surprisingly good shots, coming from a little known director, jean yeo, who mostly did tv series up till this project. hated some scenes though, the lighting was horrendously downplaying the amazing story, its emotive notions and the great acting. a little draggy at some parts, but the ending made up for everything.
definite aww factor for both the heartwarming and the heartbreaking parts. i felt so connected with 715's character, ks. heh.
i give this local film 4 chiffon cakes upon 5. a must watch for romantics and drama lovers.
btw, check out corrine may's wonderful song used in the film, scars (stronger for life), here.
